Yesterday the mister and I booked our sitter for seven hours and hopped on the train to Amsterdam for Meesterlijk, an annual design/food/craft/fashion festival. Situated in the Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek, it was an ideal excuse to get out for a heathy dose of sunshine, lekker eten, and inspiration.
In the food venue, there wasn't a single dish of food I didn't want to consume immediately and with unabashed zeal. Everything was fresh, gorgeous, and made right there by local artisans. These people were glowingly proud of their food.
We met Ben, fellow American and czar of all things sweet at his shop, Calibakery, whose chocolate cake, carrot cake, and chocolate chip cookies are verifiably perfect. (Yes, we both shamelessly doubled up on dessert in between savory courses.)
The design building was lined with handcrafted fashion, accessories, and home decor. Our favorite introduction was to Marianne van Heeswijk and her incredibly quirky and beautiful loom-woven wall tapestries. The photos on her website don't do them justice... they strike a perfect balance of elegant and, well, peculiar.
And, of course, we stopped in to give a cheery hello our sewing sensei, Dorrith and her sister Marlous, who together are the brain-sisters behind Les Soeurs Rouges.
Enough talk. Feast upon the sights, and definitely, definitely make room in your agenda for Meesterlijk 2013.
